Boutique Hotel, Aegean Island
Solar carport installed at the guest parking area of a boutique hotel. The design respected the Cycladic aesthetic with anthracite powder-coated steel, while the 8° mono-slope tilt maximises energy yield while maintaining a discreet profile. What Drives the Cost of a Solar Carport
There is no list price, because no two car parks are alike. These are the five things that move the budget, largest first.
How many bays, and in what layout
A two-car structure in a house yard and a canopy over forty bays at a hotel share neither the steel section nor the foundation. A single row costs less per bay than a double row on a shared column, but the double row wins on coverage per square metre.
The foundation and what lies beneath
On soil, concrete footings of known dimensions do the job. Over an existing slab or asphalt car park the solution changes, and if utilities or a basement run underneath, a geotechnical assessment comes before the column layout is fixed.
The wind and snow zone
The same structure inland and in the mountains does not carry the same section. Snow load in an alpine zone and wind pressure on an island raise the steel weight, and steel weight is the largest part of what the structure costs.
The panels and the charging
Bifacial panels cost more and yield more under an open structure. Provision for an EV charger, conduit and cable routing inside the columns, is cheap now and expensive later, which is why it goes into the design even when the charger arrives years after.
The permit and the square metres
Under forty square metres on a plot that already has a building, a car canopy typically needs no building permit. Above that threshold, or in a protected area, an engineer and a timeline enter the picture, and both cost as much as steel.
